Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 has now reached episode 3 with ‘Jailhouse Block’. This is arguably the best episode to date as it reminds me a lot about the ‘Prison Break’ TV series.
As you might have encountered in the previous episode, Jesse (the main hero) has been put in jail thanks to the evil ‘Admin’. Jesse and the gang now have to find out how to get out as the Warden will be looking at their every move.
The Admin takes a bit of a backseat in this episode as the main focus is trying to get out of prison. Jesse actually “aids” the Warden if you choose to be friendly with the enemy. This is of course a decoy so you can help get Jesse’s friends out.
What I like most about this episode it that it feels much more different that the previous episodes before it. The story is much more intriguing and there is a lot of character interaction. You have to make the right decisions in order to save your friends. That being said, not everyone in your party is going to have a good time.
As you progress through the episode, Jesse and the gang find out they need help in order to escape this hellish prison. The person they need help from is dubbed ‘Prisoner X’ and everyone fears this lady.
The mystery behind ‘Prisoner X’ is very intriguing as this character has a shocking secret. You really want to play this episode until the end to know more about this character. She has an interesting backstory which I won’t spoil for you here.
In terms of gameplay, there are a few action set pieces for you to go through and even an epic boss fight near the end. The boss fight is actually interactive and more than just the usual quick time events. The boss fight is a little short, but it’s an exciting battle nonetheless.
Much like other episodes, ‘Jailhouse Block’ runs for around two hours long, although there is a lot of replay value. This is because there are many tough choices that Jesse has to make here. The choices will affect the outcome for certain characters.
Another thing I like about this episode is that you can act like a douchebag if you want to. Sure you are still a “hero”, but you can choose to bad and not be as noble.
Graphically, there’s not much to say about this episode. It pretty much looks like Minecraft, although the majority of the episode is set underground in a deep prison.
As expected, the episode ends in another cliffhanger that leads straight into episode 4. We will have to wait for episode 4 and 5 to see how Jesse and the gang can save the world.
Verdict: Overall, ‘Jailhouse Block’ is my personal favorite episode in Minecraft Season 2 so far. The story is improving a lot and it’s getting more unpredictable and exciting. Hopefully the next few episodes are able to keep up the momentum.
