Comedy Night is a unique video game that just came out on Steam. It’s an online multiplayer experience where you can try your best to be a stand up comedian. The idea of the game is great, however there is a portion of its players that may ruin the experience for some people.
Let’s start off talking about the bad things about Comedy Night before I talk about the good stuff. There is potential in this game being a huge hit, but it needs have to some moderators.
The Bad: The worst thing about playing this game is some portion of the community. There are far too many racist trolls out there telling offensive jokes about black people and Muslims. Racism should not be tolerated on any level. There was even one incident where I heard someone say something mean because the guy was an Australian. Several lobbies are like this and it ruins the fun of the game.
The other thing that is bad about the game is that some people don’t even tell jokes. They waste your time on stage shouting or just playing something from a sound board. It can get annoying when you want to watch a comedy act, but instead get bombarded by people yelling or saying nonsense.
The Good: Despite hopping across many lobbies for like 30 minutes, I finally found a group of people that were generally funny and it was a glorious experience. They laughed at my jokes, and they also laughed at other people’s jokes. We even got to see rap battles take place and one guy was reading some excerpts from a book he was writing. It was by far the best time I had playing this game so far.
The other cool thing about this game is the character creation. I created someone that looked like WWE Superstar Sheamus, although several other characters looked like Donald Trump, Connor McGregor and even Amy Schumer.
The game is also easy to set up and play and there is no lag. No matter where you live in the world, the connection is stable. All you need is a microphone to participate if you want to go up on stage and tell a joke. There are also many players so it shouldn’t be hard for you to find a lobby to watch/join. You just have to keep searching to filter out the trolls.
Overall, the game can be a great time but only if you manage to find the right type of people. There was a version of the game released previously on Xbox 360. Hopefully the developers are able to port this game onto the PS4 and Xbox One in the near future. If they can filter out the trolls, it could even more awesome.
